Ultimate
I love playing Ultimate Frisbee.
I started playing Ultimate in '04 in Hong Kong after I was bored out of my mind at work one day, went through the A-Z classifieds, got to U (yes, I did go from A - U), saw a listing with contact details and where they play and thought, "ooh, I've seen this at my school" and went out to play that following weekend. Never looked back. In college I used to think it was so silly that people played ultimate frisbee; now I definitely don't think that. I believe in life, there's a sport out there for everyone and well, ultimate's that for me and no matter how much I try to replace ultimate with other sports (because I have tried), I don't derive the same joy.
I’ve played in Hong Kong, Beijing and London. I co-captained the mixed team Beijing Big Brother from 2014 - 2015. I was on the open team Camden in London from February 2016 - June 2016. I represented Team China at the 2014 World Championships in Lecco. I represented Team Hong Kong at the 2016 World Championships in London.
Now that I live in Hong Kong, I co-captain Black Kites and I travel with the team to compete in regional tournaments.
I’ve learned so much through Ultimate: teamwork, leadership, self-awareness. It’s one of the reasons why I truly believe that sports are transformative to our lives, and why I so passionately believe in promoting sports for women and girls. It’s one of my enablers in my journey to starting WISE HK.
