PROJECTS
My entrepreneurial endeavours
Since January 2017, I have been in the process of founding Women In Sports Empowered Hong Kong (WISE HK). We are a team of six, working on operationalising our programs and activities on a voluntary basis, and are currently apply for our S88 tax-exempt status .
WISE HK champions sports for women and girls. We use sports as a tool for women’s empowerment, and to dispel gender stereotypes. We 1) educate why sports matter, 2) empower women and girls through organising sports activities, and 3) connect women and girls in sports to build community. We believe in the power of sports to accelerate women’s life and leadership skills that enable them to thrive and advance their impact in their community.
It’s has been quite the journey. An incredible one, and I feel so grateful for the support I have received and friendships made along the way.
We’ve also just announced the pilot launch of our WISE Sports Leadership Program. Details are here. I’m personally quite excited because it’s something I’ve been mulling over for a while and hadn’t had the audacity to implement it, until a colleague at WISE HK — Cardeux Nel, specifically — mentioned about finding student leaders within schools to be ambassadors. Once she mentioned it, I felt it gave me permission to go ahead and put ideas into paper so … yeah … here we are, trying to launch the Program. What will happen? I don’t know yet but my only hope it’s the beginning of something bigger, and one that does contribute to leadership development for girls in Hong Kong!
Sporty Girl Journals
Sporty Girl Journals is written primarily for girls aged 10 and under. The book combines the stories of 10 Hong Kong-based athlete (who are all women) stories with activities and journaling, and is illustrated by 10 artists (all womxn) in or from Hong Kong.
Each story has imparts a key life lesson from sports, and there are activities that help girls dream big and bold on and off the sporting field.
For example, we have activities that invite girls to imagine themselves at the Olympics, to share what sports equipment they have now and want in the future, and to think about using sport as a tool for social good.
The journaling helps girls record some of their sporting experiences, from the emotions they felt to challenges they faced to what they felt proud of themselves for having achieved. We also added some simple sports challenges such as a few suggested hikes.
The books can be purchased in Hong Kong at: Bookazine, Gone Running, Kidnapped Bookshop, Lantau Base Camp, and Snuggle Wuggle. For overseas friends, you can purchase via Amazon.
Pivotal Sport (project on hold): a platform to connect sports organisers and sports seekers.
Around mid June 2017, I had the idea to start this platform. I made efforts (with other people’s help) to create a website that would meet the platform’s needs. Unfortunately, at present, I don’t have enough mental space to keep working on this. Maybe some day, I will pick it back up again.
PrepBeijing: coaching soft skills to boarding school aged students in Beijing.
This was my first entrepreneurial experience that lasted from April 2013 to August 2015. It was tough and I made many, many, many mistakes along the way — lessons that I now can take with me.
